Learning about Swaziland.

Room 3 are learing about at Swaziland. Mr B began the discussion on Wednesday and Ms Betts decided it would be good to look a bit further since all of our Room 3 Thinkers want to know more.

These are the group, so far, and the research questions the class have come up with...

What dangers are there in Swaziland? - Oscar, Riley and Jahniq

What are the different types of housing in Swaziland? - Zoe and Lilly

What food is grown in Swaziland? - Charlotte and Sarah

What does the royal family of Swaziland do? Ethan and Walter, Luke and Kahn

What clothes do people in Swaziland wear? - Tais and Lily, Maddox and Jack

What are the native animals and plants in Swaziland? Kimberley, Amber and Brooke

Next week we wil be doing a lot of research to find key facts. Keep an eye on the blog for updates!

Vegetables... in alphabetical order!

We wrote down all the vegetables we could think of - some we like and eat all the time and some that haven't been tried by everyone in the class. Then, after Ms Betts typed them up, we cut the words out and arranged them in alphabetical order...

Quite tricky with so many words to arange - usually we only have ten words to put in alphabetical order!

More yummy soup!

We made soup again last Thursday. A very big thank you to Mrs Wright and Mrs Maguire.  We split into two teams - The Boys with Maddox's mum and The Girls with Zoe's mum, very original!

The Girls...

And The Boys...

Why was Maddox crying and the boys laughing at him?

And then the whole class watched the carrot soup being cooked and blended...very funny watching everyone jump at the unexpected noise!

 Yum, the soups were delicious!

Smiley Faces helping us get the factors of a number.

Today we have been looking at factors of a number again, and we have used multi link cubes and number arrays to help work out the factors of a bigger numbers, like

1 x 32        32 x 1       2 x 16       16 x 2       4 x 8        8x 4

We started making posters to show the factors of a number - it wasn't quite as quick and easy as we first thought it would be! They will be up on the wall by the end of the week - hopefully tomorrow :-)

Look at Blyton!

Look at SILLY Blyton - she jumped into a bath, luckily it was not too hot, and then she was going to jump back in! The bathroom floor was covered in water as she was skidding around trying to catch the drops coming off her. She really is a naughty class kitten!

Soup making!

Broccoli and leek soup AND cauliflower, leek and garlic soup

"I had the cauliflower soup and I rate rate 5/10 because it felt all thick and it tasted unusual"
Kimberley

"I think the cauliflower soup was 9/10 beacuse the broccoli soup was too thick. When you put salt in the broccoli soup it didn't taste as cheesy!"
Oscar

"After we made the soup I felt full because I ate Lilly and Lily's soup as well as mine. I loved the cauliflower soup. I thought it was 10/10"
Charlotte

"I tried the broccoli soup but rate it 2/10 because when I ate it I did not like it".
Riley

As you can see we had varied responses to the soup!

While we were making the soup some questions came up...
  1. What family is the leek from?
  2. How high and how wide does a leek grow?
  3. Is garlic from the same family as onions?
  4. Is broccoli and cauliflower a winter or summer vegetable?
Homework tonight, (we forgot to do spelling etc), is to answer a question and post on the blog!

Soup making... coming up!

Tomorrow, Thursday, we were going to make soup and Mrs Wright was coming in to help. However Ms Betts has a stomach bug and won't be in. BUT we will still make soup either on Friday or early next week. We are also planning soup making on Thursday in Week 7 and 8. (More details to come.) This is all part of our healthy food unit - what is good for us, what is not good for us and how to prepare food in a safe and hygienic manner.  There is a also a special activity planned for Week 9 - and transport will be needed, most likely on Thursday the 3rd July. More details to follow.

Look how much Blyton has grown!

Blyton loves coming to school...she has her favourite spots in the class room!
